Description: Youth Volunteers will meet Forest Service packers at the trailhead near Alturas Lake. It is about a 3-mile hike up to the Alturas/Mattingly divide where the crew will hike down to set up camp along Mattingly Creek. From there, the crew will work their way down towards the Middle Fork of the Boise, clearing downed trees and cleaning waterbars. We’ll return to camp each night where meals will be prepared by a camp cook, with kitchen help from the volunteers. This stunning canyon in the Sawtooth Wilderness is a part of the Idaho Centennial Trail that sees very little traffic. Keep an eye out for mountain goats on the canyon walls overhead.
