Project: Snow Peak Lookout Trail

Description: Snow Peak Lookout Trail 55 is one of the most popular hiking and equestrian trails on the St. Joe Ranger District. The first four miles of the trail are in good shape and are safe for hikers, equestrians and bicycles. But the last mile of trail to the lookout is seriously hazardous for most users. The tread is very narrow and rocky then becomes slabs of slippery rock with crevices and ledges requiring a person or horse to scramble most of the way. This mile of trail needs concentrated work with pry bars, rock hammers and picks to make a reasonable tread for all users. If it is not addressed, it is sure to get worse. An additional benefit is that good access would make planned lookout restoration (very much needed) possible.
